Medina County Sanitary Engineers

In the Summer of 1998, the office of the Medina County Sanitary Engineer began the process of "GPS Monumetation." The purpose of "GPS Monumentation" is to establish a countywide coordinate system that would enable the Sanitary Engineers' to geographically locate its water and sanitary utilities for mapping purposes. "GPS Monumentation" is the first step in the process of transfering all of the Sanitary Engineer's utilities to a G.I.S. (Geographic Information System) application to benefit the entire county.

As of October of 2003, there are 54 monuments in the Medina County GPS Network. Forty-six of these monuments are "Blue-booked" by N.G.S. (National Geodetic Survey). The "Blue-booking" process publishes monuments in to a national database maintained by N.G.S. Of these 46 monuments, the office of the Medina County Sanitary Engineer used 22 existing monuments with in the county and set 27 new monuments. A majority of the "Blue-booked" monuments are "First Order Horizontal" and "Fourth (ClassII) Odrer Vertical" according to N.G.S. classifications. In addition, 8 new monuments were added in the Fall of 2002, but were not "Blue-booked." These monuments are- SH28, WE29, CH30, HO31, SP32, CWL9, CWL42, and ABBOTTAZ.

Datasheets are availible for all of the 54 Medina County G.P.S. Control monuments. Explaination of the datasheets is as follows:
